A Virtual + Backyard Summer Camp
Launch into activities and challenges campers carry out individually or as part of a Coach-led team!
Daily virtual check-ins and discussions facilitated by engaged coaches.
Present a designed and deployable solution to weekly community challenge projects!
A healthy balance between “screen time” and campers’ “getting their hands dirty time.”
Connect to a Garden. Grow Incredible Possibilities
Campers dig-in on big ideas and challenges. Their experience is all centered around the original laboratory, the first-ever app: a garden. By observing nature, campers have direct access to billions of years of research and development – that’s Civic Biodesign!
Don’t have a garden of your own? The BAM team will work to connect you with local resources in your community to help get you started. At the end of the day, all you need is seed, some dirt, a container, water, sunlight, and patience.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 10: Waste / Produce No Waste
Campers will learn about where their household waste goes and its implications for future populations and the environment. They will be challenged to examine their own waste production, the issues it creates, and strategies for reducing waste production and alternative uses for their waste other than going to landfill.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 09: Food / Obtain a yield
Campers will be introduced to the importance of food security. We invite them to explore what threats exist to their food supply within their own communities and dare them to develop a strategy that tackles an important food security issue. On a practical level, we challenge them to start their own garden (this can be a vegetable patch for those with gardens or kitchen planter for apartment dwellers!)
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 08: Transportation / Integrate Rather Than Segregate
Campers will explore the issues surrounding our current urban planning models in our country today and the need for developments to be designed around humans than cars. They will be challenged to explore their own access to essential services within their community and to come up with solutions to current issues and threats to accessibility.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 07: Water / Observe and Interact
Campers will be introduced to the importance of access to a safe water supply and ask them to uncover where their own water supply comes from and potential threats to it. We challenge them to develop strategies to tackle issues affecting their water supply.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 06: Health / Apply Self Regulation and Accept Feedback
Campers will learn about how lifestyle affects our health and its notable impact on the American population. They will be challenged to examine how their own community’s design and built environment affects their health and to develop solutions that encourage better health outcomes for the future.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 05: Waste / Produce No Waste
Campers will learn about where their household waste goes and its implications for future populations and the environment. They will be challenged to examine their own waste production, the issues it creates, and strategies for reducing waste production and alternative uses for their waste other than going to landfill.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 04: Energy / Catch and Store Energy
Campers will explore how we use energy and issues arising from our energy consumption in our communities. They will be challenged to uncover threats to the energy supply of their communities and to develop strategies to optimize their energy use and potentially viable alternatives.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 03: Shelter / Design From Patterns to Details
Campers will be challenged to uncover issues surrounding their homes and neighborhoods in the spheres of residential development and learn about current issues affecting housing affordability and development today.
BAM Virtual Summer Camp Week 02: Water / Obtain a yield
Campers will be introduced to the importance of access to a safe water supply and ask them to uncover where their own water supply comes from and potential threats to it. We challenge them to develop strategies to tackle issues affecting their water supply.
